Murray Celebrates the 4th with a Blast!

A cool and damp 4th, with nearly 1 1/4" rain the night before, didn't dampen the patriotic spirit at the Murray festivities.  Only the tractor pull was scheduled and completed on Sunday, due to the ground being too wet and slick.

The pancake feed at the Murray Fire and Rescue station seemed to be a big success.  Pancakes, sausage, mixed fruit, juice and coffee was filling empty tummies, getting them ready for the big day ahead.

The oozeball games were well underway when the 'Little Mr and Miss 4th of July', Cute Baby Contest and Cheerleaders' Dunk Tank scattered the crowd all over the field by Young Park.

Above, a firehose is the only way to get close to clean after a gooey game of oozeball!!

Really, now....HOW do you choose the cutest baby???????  All of those entered were absolutely adorable and each had personality plus!

Chuck the Truck stood on the sidelines and announced events taking place all day, below:

The Conestoga Booster Club sold drinks and Schwan's Ice Cream treats.  They  also conducted a raffle with prizes consisting of Lofte Tickets, English Rose certificates, fifty pounds of meat from Marco's Meats and a 148-piece professional tool kit.  Who were the lucky winners???

The Conestoga Cheerleaders had a hard time keeping dried off!  Besides the misty weather, they were dunked in this tank over and over and over and...........

Evening brought the parade down Young Street from the east as onlookers lined both sides of the road.  The Boy Scout Honor Guard presented the Colors, then came fire and rescue equipment, floats, cars, and more.   Lots of kids were scooping up candy that was being thrown to them from the parade participants.

Murray Christian Church raffled off a couple of nice items on the 4th.  A red, white and blue quilt, handmade and donated by Jane Meisinger was won by Sally Atkins and a child-size bench, hand-crafted and donated by Millard Carnes was won by Dana Sayers.

The concessions at the church went over big, also, and that homemade ice cream was so-o-o-o creamy and good! (Below)

The Murray Presbyterian Church also had great food inside and sold patriotic items outside under a big tent, as shown below.  Of course, having a sweet girl as the salesperson was a sure way to bring in the buyers!

The ballfield was the stage for the Conestoga Dance Team and the young people that they'd choreographed a couple of dance routines for earlier in the day.

Before the glorious fireworks display, singing our National Anthem, once again, as she has for many years, was Linda Grunewald.  No one does it better, in my opinion, and I hope Linda continues to honor us with her wonderful voice on the 4th for many more years to come.  Thanks, Linda!

Thank you, also, to the 4th of July Committee, the Murray Volunteer Fire and Rescue members and everyone else who helped to make this year's celebration a success!

TRACTOR PULL on SUNDAY, JULY 5th

The tractor pull originally scheduled for the 4th of July, was postponed till the following day, due to the ground being too wet from rain.  Sunday turned out to be a beautiful, sunny day...just right to sit out and enjoy the fun!

Auditions at Lofte Theatre

The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley will be holding auditions for its production of, "Over the River and Through the Woods,"  on Monday, July 20th and Tuesday, July 21st at 7:00PM.  The production will run weekends between August 28 and September 13.  

The play is set in New Jersey and revolves around the young and single "Nick" who has Sunday dinner with both sets of grandparents every week.  When Nick receives an offer for his dream job that would move him away from his family, his grandparents embark upon a series of schemes to keep him around!  Parts for 3 men and 3 women. 

Those interested in auditioning can expect cold readings from the script.  Specifics on available parts can be found on the theater's website, www.Lofte.com.  Questions regarding the show or the audition process may be sent to Artistic Director Kevin Colbert at LofteDirector@Lofte.com.
